I know, I want to put them in the perfect spot to show them off too, but you can’t just stick them in a bathroom with no natural light. You have to find their happy spot. (Full disclosure - the one above is in the bathroom with no light, but I just rotated it back there.)
So here is how you pick the right spot for your collection when it is indoors:
- A South facing window is perfect
- Put up sheer curtains for diffuse light. See the setup in the video below
- You may want a humidifier for their room if your house is under 40% humidity.
- Room temperature is good, 65-85. Warmer is better for bloom time, cooler for dormancy
- Set aside the sunniest spot as a little hospital for stressed orchids. They recoup well with lots of light
- Find a cooler spot with lower light for when they go dormant after blooming
